What Is Self-Esteem

What exactly is your self-esteem?  Basically, self-esteem is your honest opinion of yourself, not only how you see yourself but whether you consider yourself worthy of success and recognition in whatever situation that confronts you.

Many people who suffer from low self-esteem see themselves as lesser human beings.

Generally speaking, people with low self-esteem don’t believe they deserve respect or that they are worthy of praise.  People with low self-esteem also see themselves as nondescript, one of a faceless crowd, unimportant.

Each one of us is unique and special and we are all worthy.  Especially you.  

The problem with many women who have difficulty with self-esteem is they worry too much.  Before an event or situation they are unfamiliar with, many women will run through different scenarios in their heads as to what could go wrong.  By the time they have finished, they have every conceivable problem facing them which severely dents their self-esteem.  If this sounds like you, remember, nobody has the ability to see into the future.

Women are brilliant at paralysis by analysis.

Try to quell negative thoughts and concentrate on times that went well.  Remember how good you felt when you did something really well and bring this feeling to mind every time nerves threaten to get the better of you.   This will give your self-esteem a boost in the right direction.

The difference between people with low self-esteem and people with high self-esteem is this; confident people focus on external things i.e.: the other person or the job in hand.  While people who lack confidence tend to focus on inner things such as what the other person must be thinking of them or what a mess they are making of the job in hand.

If you occupy your mind by projecting your thoughts onto the other person, it will have less space to worry about how you are doing.  Give other people your full attention and they will think you are wonderful which in turn will do your self-esteem the power of good!
